The opportunities for public/private partnerships cover a wide range of economic sectors and public services. Our reputation rests on developing practical solutions that add value to a nation's innovative capacity, productivity and competitiveness.
Economic Sectors: Borealis Infrastructure is focused on opportunities in various sectors where we have developed professional asset management expertise. The sectors and type of assets we own or pursue include: - Transportation: Toll roads, bridges, tunnels, airports, inter-urban rail, transit systems, and ports. Current examples are the Confederation Bridge, the Detroit River Rail Tunnel and the Associated British Ports.
- Energy: Power generation, transmission systems, municipal utilities, and alternative sources. Current examples are Bruce Power (nuclear generation), Enersource (electricity distribution), Enwave (alternative) and Scotia Gas Networks (gas distribution).
- Infrastructure buildings: Long-term care facilities, schools, courthouses, and hospitals. Current examples are Extendicare Long-Term Care Facilities, Ontario hospitals and Nova Scotia schools.
- Pipelines: Oil and gas. Current example is the Express Pipeline System.
Goal: Multi-billion dollar portfolio of high-performance infrastructure assets
Individual investments: $100 million plus
Financial opportunities: Debt, equity and a creative mix of both
Investment timeframe: 10 to 30 years
Target return: Over the long term, an IRR of 10 to 15 per cent per annum, commensurate with the asset's risk profile.
